DROUGHT's musical inspirations

I love listening to music when I'm planning, writing and revising my novels. Ask anyone who's been in the room with me while I work, especially if I'm revising on paper printouts. I've got my headphones on, I'm dancing, and I don't care who's watching!

One dark song from the normally chipper Barenaked Ladies was a major inspiration for DROUGHT. The song, THE OLD APARTMENT, captures the twisted, brutal "love" that villain Darwin West shows for my main character's mother.

I also listened to a lot of beautiful and passionate love songs while I wrote this story. Four of them are in the playlist below, along with THE OLD APARTMENT. Unfortunately I couldn't add the BNL rendition of THE OLD APARTMENT, so there's a snippet performed by No Boundaries The Next Level.
