That day never came, due to failing health and a stroke that left her unable to read or to hold a pen, just as her children were moving out of the house. The knowledge that my mother's dreams of being a writer would remain unfulfilled colored my actions every time I sat down to write while my boys napped. By the time they were teens, they were downright encouraging about my efforts, especially the eldest who, in addition to his other interests, was beginning to be caught by the writing bug himself. Now a young adult, he's doing NaNoWriMo for the first time and seems more likely to finish a novel before I do. Three generations of writers, each moving just a little closer to our dreams.
