Music to kick-start writing
Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 9:44PM Every year I take two weeks off from writing, at the holidays. Now I'm back and I'm having a hard time getting back in gear.
So I've got a word goal of 1,000 for tonight and I'm blasting some good psych-up-and-write-it music. Here's my own little weird mix:
--DOG DAYS ARE OVER (Florence + The Machine)
--JOHN THE FISHERMAN (Primus)
--BAD REPUTATION (The Hit Girls)
--GIRLFRIEND (PIED PIPER REMIX) (B2K)
--HOLOGRAM (Katie Hirzig)
Got any other faves to recommend? Because I'm thinking it's going to take a few days to really kick into action!

Good topic! Funny, this morning I was just thinking of how absolutely rockin' "Du Hast" by Rammstein. Not everyone's cup of Schnapps, but it's good.
A lot of it might depend on what I'm writing or my mood. For sheer energy, it's hard to beat many of the tracks on The Matrix soundtrack or the film's score itself. In fact, lately I've been playing a lot of electronica/trance tracks when feeling creative: Delerium and Conjure One come to mind.
For a darker edge, I might lean toward any soundtrack that Danny Elfman has done, along with some old goth (Siouxsie & the Banshees) and new goth (Collide).
Ken these are some great suggestions. I'm going to be checking them out.
Plus I've already got the "best of" Danny Elfman CD set on my desk; a good reminder to break those out again.
